How to cleanse your nose with Yogi's NoseBuddy DRAFT

Rinse the pot with clean water before each use.

1. Put one level measuring spoon of salt (4.5g) into your NoseBuddy

Use fine table or cooking salt, preferably without additives such as iodine or anti-caking agents. Coarse salt may also be used, but make sure it dissolves fully.

We recommend rock salt, since some people react to sea salt with symptoms such as a stuffy or runny nose.

2. Fill the pot with clean, lukewarm water up to the mark (0.5 litres)

Boil the water for one minute and let it cool to a comfortable temperature, or use distilled or sterilized water warmed to lukewarm.

In temperate climates with high quality tap water, you may use water straight from the tap. Let it run for half a minute before filling the pot.

Where tap water quality is poor, the climate is hot, or the water is strongly chlorinated, always boil the water or use distilled or sterilized water.

If your mucous membranes are dry, such as after a long flight, you may add a few drops of vegetable oil like almond or sesame oil.

3. Stir the water until the salt fully dissolves

The solution now matches the salt concentration of body cells, 0.9%. This isotonic solution ensures a pleasant experience.

4. Rinse your nose

Insert the spout into one nostril so that it fits snugly. Breathe gently through your mouth.

Lean forward over a sink. Tilt your head slightly to one side, so that the water runs in through one nostril and out the other.

Pour half the pot through each nostril. Gently blow your nose after rinsing.

If you need a more thorough cleansing, use a full pot for each nostril.

5. Let the water run out

Bend forward, head and arms hanging down loosely.

Allow the excess water to run out of your nose. Dab with a tissue.

If you’re familiar with yoga, you may enhance the effect with a pose such as the Clown or the Headstand.

6. Blow your nose

Stand up and gently blow each nostril separately. Avoid strong blowing.

If you have a cold, blow your nose extra carefully since the mucous membranes are more sensitive.

7. Breathing exercise: The Blacksmith's Bellows (optional)

To get the best results, finish with a a breathing exercise. This is especially beneficial if you are congested, affected by sinusitis, allergies or asthma.

Sit with your back and head upright, place your index and middle finger on your forehead.

Determine which nostril is most open and shut the other nostril with your thumb or ring finger.

Breathe in and out rapidly through the open nostril twenty times.

Inhale fully and hold your breath by closing both nostrils. Keep holding the breath as long as is comfortable, letting the air press gently inside your nose. If congested, hold your breath longer.

Finally, exhale slowly through the same nostril. Repeat on the other side, then repeat the full sequence twice more on each side.

Good to know

If the water flows slowly, or does not come out through the other nostril

Make sure you are not pressing the spout against

Congestion may block the flow. Keep the spout in place, tilting your head, for a few minutes to loosen the blockage, then blow your nose gently. Repeat on both sides until the water begins to pass through.

The unique design of Yogi’s NoseBuddy, with its large volume and long curved spout, facilitates good water flow. This means that in most cases, the nasal passages can be cleared after a while, even when congested.

If water runs into your mouth

Water running into your mouth is harmless and may be due to congestion. If a lot of water enters your mouth, adjust your position by leaning further forward, tucking your chin in, or tilting your head. Do not tilt too far to the side. Keep breathing through your mouth and avoid swallowing.

If it stings

This may be due to too much or too little salt, or the salt not being fully dissolved. Always use the measuring spoon, fill to the mark, add salt before the water and stir until fully dissolved. The solution is correct when it tastes like tears.

How often should I cleanse my nose?

Once or twice daily is recommended.

You may use NoseBuddy more often to prevent a cold, clear congestion or ease symptoms of sinusitis, asthma or hay fever. It is also useful after exposure to dusty or polluted air.

To reduce snoring, cleanse before bed.

For deeper cleansing, use a full pot for each nostril. Benefits increase with regular daily use.

Keep NoseBuddy Clean

Rinse the pot with clean water before each use. After use, rinse the pot and spoon with hot water and let them air dry.

Wash the pot and spoon regularly by hand with mild detergent or in a dishwasher. Wash more often if you add oil to the water.

For hygiene reasons, we recommend not sharing your neti pot.

NoseBuddy is a long–lasting product, but if the pot gets worn or difficult to keep clean, it’s time to change to a new NoseBuddy.
